Putting together a top-notch animated series takes a lot of hard work — and no one on set works harder than the wildly inventive voice actors. So it should come as no surprise that the talented cast of Anne: The Animated Series has gone on to do some pretty incredible things. Read on to learn more about the voices behind Anne, Diana and Gilbert!
The voice of Anne Shirley was done by the experienced voice actress, Bryn McAuley. Though Bryn had only been working for two years when she joined the cast, her resume already boasted seven impressive gigs (including the voice of April Patterson on the animated series, For Better or for Worse). Since then, she has lent her voice to various children’s programs, including Franklin, George Shrinks, Arthur, Toot & Puddle, and The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That.
The character of Diana Barry was voiced by award-winning Canadian actress, Emily Hampshire. Though Emily has plenty of voice-over experience (including the animated television shows Braceface, 6Teen, Atomic Betty and Ruby Gloom), she has recently transitioned to more serious roles. Lately, Emily has been praised for her work in big-budget films The Trotsky and Cosmopolis, and in the television shows Rookie Blue and Republic of Doyle.
Audiences may recognize Al Mukadam from hit Canadian television shows Radio Free Roscoe, Degrassi: The Next Generation and The Assistants. But before making a name for himself as an actor, Al was the voice behind Gilbert Blythe in Anne: The Animated Series. Since then, Al has appeared in hit movies like 2011’s Breakaway (the film also starred Russell Peters, Rob Lowe and Camilla Belle), and has been writing, directing and starring in short films, including Mookie’s Law and Running Boy.
